HALLENBAD

The design focuses on a clear and efficient architectural approach that uses simple means to create a variety of spatial configurations and distinct atmospheres for different user groups. The emphasis is on spatial interconnections, in which indoor and outdoor areas merge seamlessly, weaving the indoor swimming pool, the outdoor pool, Losbergpark and the natural surroundings of the Berkel into a cohesive experiential space. A new green corridor reinforces this structure and creates a striking link between the town centre and Losbergpark.

Competition 2026 - Honorable Mention

In collaboration with Studio Julien Kiefer, WGK GmbH Landschaftsarchitekten and ifb Tragwerksplanung.

A slender, elongated building volume structures the site and offers distinct advantages in both functional and spatial terms: along the new park promenade, the existing green corridor with its mature trees is preserved, reinforcing the continuity of the landscape. The distance between the building structure and the existing outdoor pool allows for a perimeter circulation loop around the pool, while simultaneously improving the connection between the outdoor pool grounds and the catering facilities. To the north, the kiosk serving hatch connects directly to the miniature golf course, integrating seamlessly into the open space. Unnecessary leftover spaces are avoided, ensuring that both the park and outdoor pool areas remain spatially well-defined and highly usable. To the south, the full depth of the building plot is consistently utilised to establish a central entrance area for the outdoor pool.

The building is divided into a single-storey flat-roof element and a pitched roof over the swimming pools. While the lower volume allows for a scaled integration into the surrounding context, the mono-pitched roof rising above it forms the spatial pinnacle of the ensemble. By shifting the ridge towards the centre of the building, the volume remains approachable. In the distant view, however, the plinth recedes behind the vegetation, while the distinctive roof silhouette develops a landmark presence, anchoring the swimming pool within the urban fabric.
